After that conversation, she performs a detailed exam of the area to shape the diagnosis and treatment plan. 

Once she has a clear view of the condition, she explains her diagnosis and outlines your options. You may discuss topical medication, oral medication, procedures, labs, biopsy, or a combination of services, all personalized to your situation.

Dr. Mendes also discusses alternatives to testing/biopsy, but the patient ultimately decides. As she always tells patients: they are the captain of the ship.

Absolutely! Treating acne often requires a layered plan. Dr. Mendes may examine your breakout patterns, skin sensitivity, hormonal factors, product use, and treatment history. 

From there, she can discuss which prescriptions, topical routines, oral medications, procedures, or supportive skin services might fit into your personalized plan.

You may need a biopsy for diagnosis when a spot has changed, looks atypical, does not heal, or requires more detail than a surface-level exam can provide. A biopsy reveals what the skin is doing at a microscopic level.

If Dr. Mendes recommends a biopsy, she transparently shares the reasoning and her biopsy selection. She will review basic aftercare and tell you when you can expect the results of additional testing. She also reviews alternatives to biopsies; Dr. Mendes always works with the patient to decide whether to schedule a procedure.
