Your First Visit

Your first appointment is all about getting to know you and your skin.

Dr. Mendes will review your medical and dermatologic history, discuss your current concerns, and perform an examination based on the reason for your visit. This is your opportunity to ask questions, point out changes you’ve noticed, and discuss any ongoing skin concerns.

Depending on your needs, your visit may include evaluation of a specific concern, a skin cancer screening, discussion of a chronic skin condition, or recommendations for additional testing, treatment, or follow-up care.

Before you leave, we’ll make sure you understand your next steps and have the opportunity to ask any questions about your care.

What to Bring to Your First Appointment

A little preparation can help us make the most of your visit. Please bring:

 

  • A valid photo ID
  • Your current insurance card
  • A list of your current medications and supplements
  • Information about any medication or product allergies
  • Relevant medical and dermatologic history
  • A list of previous skin conditions, biopsies, or skin cancers
  • Your family history of skin cancer, if known
  • Photos showing changes in a rash, mole, or other concern, if applicable
  • A list of questions or concerns you’d like to discuss

If you are coming in for a skin concern that changes or comes and goes, photos showing what it looked like at its worst can be especially helpful.

Before Your Appointment

Please complete any new-patient forms provided by our team before your visit when possible. Arriving with your paperwork and insurance information ready allows us to spend more of your appointment focused on you.

For skin examinations, we recommend arriving with minimal makeup and avoiding heavy lotions or self-tanner when possible. If you have a specific spot or area you’re concerned about, make a note of it so you can point it out during your appointment.

 

Insurance + Payment

DeeTox Dermatology is currently in-network with Aetna and Cigna.

If we are out-of-network with your insurance plan, our team can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement vary by individual plan, so we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly with questions about your specific benefits.
